Australian Music Examinations Board

The University of Adelaide Australia

About Us

The Australian Music Examinations Board offers a system of graded music and speech examinations, including supportive publications related to the syllabus and examinations.   The syllabi and their publications provide valuable frameworks for studies throughout school years and beyond.    In many cases, progression through the AMEB system leads to university entrance and the establishment of professional careers in teaching and performing.

AMEB History

In 1887 the Universities of Adelaide and Melbourne began the Australian Music Examinations Board, (AMEB) which in 1914 became a national organisation.

Today it is a federated body with its Federal Office based in Melbourne. Signatories to its constitution comprise the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne, Western Australia and the Ministers of Education in New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.  These, and other education institutions, use AMEB qualifications as a benchmark for student selection into their courses.
